I have a friend. I met him on the internet. He inspired me to take photography more seriously and improve it as a craft. My skill and improvement owes a big debt to his help.
Right now he's in a contest. The rules are pretty simple. Your submit a dream photography assignment. People vote on it. The top 20 assignments will go before a panel of judges as finalists, and the judges will pick the winner.
All he wants is to get his assignment before that panel. The rest is in their hands. Up to that point, he needs your help. He's 21 votes away from being in the top 20. He's been in the top 20 for the entire contest until today. There's just over 24 hours until voting ends and he's 3% of his total votes out of the running. Every vote will make a difference. You will make a difference.
You have to register to vote. But don't worry. They don't send you spam. It's just to keep voting under control and ballots from being stuffed. It takes 5 minutes. 5 minutes and you can make a difference.
First photos in a long time, more due to not uploading them than not taking them. Here are some select ones from a trip to Hawai'i in the spring, my first trip to O'ahu. This is the first batch that I did post processing on, so while most are subtle, there are a few that were kind of boring, or that I had multiple of, so I intentionally over-processed them.
Inspired by the fiancee, I've been reading up on digital photo processing and learning curves. I came across one article on cross processing, simulating a high contrast special effect from chemical photo development.
As I'm processing the photos from my last Hawai'i trip, there was one cool, but blurry photo.
Pretty boring because of all the blur. I liked it mainly because of the circumstances behind it. It wasn't planned. I was trying to take a picture of the tunnel behind us. A friend in the back seat was trying to get the tunnel ahead of us, we just happened to do it at exactly the same time (she has my hand and camera in her photo). So, I threw it into the pile. Then, preparing for the processing I came across the above article. So, when I came to this photo, something I probably would have tossed, I get to play with it a bit.
I think the results change it from boring except for the story behind it to a pretty nifty shot.
Cross processing is my new friend for boring photos.
I sell pictures on it. I've only got three up so far (although that might double before the night is over). Take a look, let me know what you think. Just about every picture in my gallery is available for sale, although I won't be eventually putting them all up. The gallery is already the pick of the litter from my pictures, so the shop will only be the best of the best, not to mention what I imagine someone might want to hang up on a wall.
As a result, I've set up some new gallery software. Something that keep the full size pictures more secure and lets me easily do watermarks. If anyone was fond of grabbing full size pictures for wallpaper, I can set you up with an account that is still able to do that. But for anon logins or someone I don't know personally, they're now off limits for now.
Of course, if you want to buy something, that's awesome. But if say you let me know about one that you really, really liked, particularly before a birthday or similarly festive occasion, I just might find a recourse to present one to you as a....gift. Again, an offer to friends and family.
